Why a biweekly paycheck is not the same as twice a month
Paid every two weeks you get 26 paychecks a year. Paid twice a month you get 24. The two extra checks arrive in two months of the year, when your pay day falls three times in one month.
Use the three paycheck months
Build your budget on two paychecks a month. In a month with three, the third check is not part of your normal budget. Many people send it to savings, debt or a sinking fund. The calendar above shows which months in your year have three.
Questions people ask
How many paychecks do I get in a year if I am paid biweekly?
Usually 26. Because a year has 52 weeks and one day, some years have 27 pay days. Enter any real pay date and a year above to see exactly how many fall in that year.
What is a three paycheck month?
With pay every 14 days, most months hold two paychecks. Two months a year, sometimes three, hold a third. This calculator marks them for the year you choose.
Is biweekly the same as semi-monthly?
No. Biweekly means every two weeks, 26 checks. Semi-monthly means twice a month, usually on fixed dates such as the 15th and the last day, 24 checks. Each biweekly check is smaller than a semi-monthly check for the same salary.
Is the tax figure accurate?
It is an estimate. You enter one rate for everything taken from taxable pay, and the tool applies it to pay left after pre-tax deductions. Your pay stub is the final word.
